The sensing range is the temperature range you wish to maintain in the target area being measured. A common mistake made when specifying a sensing range is to select a full operating range instead of the actual sensing range. For example: specifying 32 - 212°F when, in fact, you need to measure only a 158°F - 176°F range. A more precisely defined, smaller sensing range will help us more accurately determine which product is best suited to your needs.

You will achieve a more accurate reading by decreasing the distance to the target. Increasing distance increases the undesired effect of measuring surrounding heat sources or reflections. Exergen products can often be placed close to the target with excellent results because they maintain high accuracy across the ambient temperature range.
